Maresias – Surf, Scenery, and a Lively Beach Atmosphere

Maresias is one of the most iconic beaches on the São Paulo coastline — a long, wide stretch of soft sand and consistent waves, nestled between forested hills and the Atlantic Ocean. Known for its surf culture, vibrant beach life, and nightlife, Maresias offers more energy and infrastructure than many of its neighboring beaches, while still holding onto its natural charm.

The beach itself is just over 4 kilometers long, with room for everything from sunbathing and beach volleyball to long walks and, of course, surfing. Waves here attract surfers year-round, and Maresias has produced some of Brazil’s most well-known professional surfers — including Gabriel Medina.

While weekends and holidays can be busy, weekdays are more relaxed, and it’s possible to find quieter spots, especially toward the ends of the beach. Behind the sand, you’ll find a mix of restaurants, cafes, and small shops, giving the area a more developed, urban vibe compared to the more secluded beaches nearby.

Despite its popularity, Maresias still offers natural beauty — with views of nearby islands, dramatic sunsets, and the constant sound of waves crashing. Whether you're here for the surf, the scene, or just to explore another side of the North Coast, Maresias is a place with personality, movement, and its own rhythm.
