Praia das Conchas – A Secluded Shell-Lined Sanctuary

Tucked between rocky outcrops and dense Atlantic rainforest, Praia das Conchas remains one of São Sebastião’s most peaceful and hidden beaches. Though small in size, it offers a unique blend of raw natural beauty and contemporary design—with a striking residence now nestled into the landscape, quietly merging modern architecture with the serenity of the coast. The Residência Conchas, designed by architect Gui Mattos, was carefully built to respect the area’s natural contours, concentrating the structure's footprint and integrating it with the surrounding environment.

Access to Praia das Conchas is part of the adventure. The only public way in is along the rocky coastline, usually from Praia Preta or other nearby shores. The road that leads to the house is private, helping to preserve the beach’s quiet, untouched character. This seclusion—combined with its dark sands and abundance of seashells—gives the beach an almost secret, untouched atmosphere.

While the waters are rocky and not ideal for swimming, Praia das Conchas is perfect for relaxing, picnicking, or simply soaking in the harmony between ocean, forest, and thoughtful architecture. The house, designed to blend into the terrain rather than dominate it, adds quiet character without disturbing the natural calm.

For those willing to make the journey, Praia das Conchas offers solitude, beauty, and a glimpse into how nature and design can coexist with balance and respect.
