Praia do Pontal – The Main Beach of As Ilhas
Praia do Pontal is the largest and most accessible beach on As Ilhas, a small island off the coast of São Sebastião. Surrounded by Atlantic rainforest and calm, transparent waters, the beach is only reachable by boat—there are no bridges or public transport links from the mainland.
Despite its remote setting, Praia do Pontal has a modest kiosk with drinks and simple food, plus beach chairs and tables set up for visitors. Two island residents live by this beach and help run the services available. For them, this small-scale tourism is their only source of income, and while the prices may be high, it's part of sustaining life on the island.
On weekdays, the beach can feel like a private escape—peaceful, quiet, and uncrowded. But on weekends and holidays, Praia do Pontal often fills up with boats and visitors, drawn by the beauty and charm of this island spot. It's a great place for swimming, snorkeling, or simply soaking up the atmosphere of a beach that blends simplicity, nature, and island life.
