Barra do Una

A beautiful and low-key beach destination on the northern coast of São Paulo state.

What makes Barra do Una special?

River + Ocean Combo

The Una River flows into the Atlantic Ocean right at the beach, creating a unique landscape where you can swim in both freshwater and saltwater in the same place. It's calm and safe, especially for families or kayaking/paddleboarding.

Surrounded by Nature

It's located near the Serra do Mar State Park, so you’ve got lush Atlantic rainforest all around — great for short hikes, birdwatching, or just being surrounded by green

Not Overdeveloped

Compared to busier spots like Maresias or Juquehy, Barra do Una is more laid-back. There are pousadas (small guesthouses), vacation homes, and a few restaurants, but no high-rises or nightlife.

I have stayed at Hotel Canoa with my family and can recommend that hotel. It's a bit on the simple side, but it has an unbeatable location and super friendly hosts.

Nearby Beaches

You can take a boat or a short drive to nearby beaches like Juquehy, Camburi, or Baleia Beach, which are a little more lively.

Seasons

Summer (December to March)

Warm temperatures and vibrant beach atmosphere. Peak tourist season with larger crowds and higher accommodation prices.

I have been here in late summer. The weather was really good and the sea temperature perfect. Not too crowdy for my taste.

Autumn (April to June)

Mild temperatures and reduced rainfall. Quieter beaches and more availability in accommodations.

Winter (July to August)

Cooler temperatures. Ideal for those seeking solitude and lower prices, though some tourist services may be limited.

Spring (September to November)

Gradually warming temperatures and blooming flora. A balance between favorable weather and moderate crowd sizes.
