Røvær
Røvær is a small island community located about 10 kilometers northwest of Haugesund, offering a unique glimpse into authentic Norwegian coastal life. With fewer than 100 residents and no cars, the island has a calm and timeless atmosphere shaped by the sea, wind, and changing weather.
Despite its size, Røvær has a fully functioning local community with a school, grocery store, and accommodation options such as Røvær Kulturhotell. The island’s history is closely tied to fishing, particularly the herring boom of the 1800s, and traces of earlier settlement reach back to the Iron Age.
Visitors come to Røvær to experience raw coastal nature, quiet surroundings, and a slower pace of life. Walking paths lead through open landscapes with wide ocean views, and the highest point, Bråvarden, offers a simple but beautiful lookout over the surrounding islands and sea.
Whether you arrive for a day trip or stay overnight, Røvær provides a peaceful escape from the mainland—just a short boat ride away, yet a world apart.
