At Vår Frelsers Gravlund, a small and well-kept section is dedicated to the Commonwealth War Graves, commemorating soldiers who lost their lives during the Second World War. Most of those buried here were Allied servicemen—primarily from Britain and other Commonwealth nations—who died in and around the Norwegian coast.
The graves are maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and follow a distinctive, uniform design with light stone headstones arranged in neat rows. Each stone bears the name, rank, unit, and date of death, often accompanied by a personal inscription chosen by the family.
This calm and respectful area stands as a reminder of Haugesund’s connection to the wider events of World War II, and of the young lives lost far from home. The simplicity and order of the graves create a quiet place for reflection, honoring those who served and never returned.
